Meet Dr. Lion

A pediatrician who remembers what it's like to need one.

Dr. Elizabeth Lion, pediatrician and founder of Lionheart Pediatrics

Elizabeth Theriault Lion, MD

Dr. Lion is a board-certified general pediatrician with over a decade of experience caring for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. She earned her medical degree with a focus on integrative medicine from the George Washington University School of Medicine, and completed both her internship and residency in pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine — where she was named Pediatric Resident of the Year by the Baylor chapter of the American Medical Women's Association.

Her career has taken her from a not-for-profit medical home serving the greater Denver pediatric community, to a volunteer clinical instructor role at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, to leading quality-improvement work in Southern California — including building a framework to keep well-child and acute care running safely for families during the earliest, scariest days of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Austin, she most recently cared for patients at Dell Children's, and she maintains an ongoing affiliation with the University of Texas Dell Medical School.

Along the way, she's stayed active in committees focused on nutrition, community health advocacy, and mental health with the Texas Pediatric Society, and served on the Policy Pillar of a pediatric advocacy committee — work driven by a simple belief: kids do best when the systems around them actually serve their families.

Through all of it, one thing stayed the same: she practiced thoroughly, taking the time each family needed, and parents told her they valued it. The system around her did not. Traditional, fee-per-visit practice asks for ten-minute visits, paperwork that dictates how much time she can spend with a worried parent, and a schedule so packed there's no room to simply listen. She knew there had to be a better way to practice the kind of medicine she had always practiced.

That better way is Lionheart Pediatrics.

Her Philosophy

"I never want you to feel alone."

Home visits, not hallways

Visits happen in your own home — where kids are comfortable, siblings don't need a babysitter, and parents don't have to load everyone into the car for a 15-minute appointment.

A small panel, on purpose

Dr. Lion keeps her practice far smaller than a typical pediatric panel so she can actually know your child — their history, their quirks, their worries — not just their chart number.

Time to actually talk

No 10-minute visits. No rushing out the door before you've asked your third question. Appointments are built around your family's needs, not the constraints of a fee-per-visit system.

Meeting families where they are

Literally, and in every other sense. Home visits mean Dr. Lion sees your child's world — their room, their pets, their routine — and that context makes for better care. She welcomes your questions and concerns, including about medications and vaccines, and tailors her recommendations to where your family is while following AAP guidelines. Her care is trauma-informed and evidence-based: she pays attention to what your child and family have been through, and every recommendation rests on current research.

Why This Is Personal

She's a pediatrician, and she's a mother.

Dr. Lion is a mother herself, and she considers each patient the way she would consider her own child. Her background in Integrative Medicine gives her a broad range of options to weigh, and she talks through the evidence behind every recommendation, yours and hers, so that decisions are made together.
